Stability: Preferred: Separate and freeze immediately. Alternate: send on ice, but must be processed within 4 hours of sample collection
Reasons for Rejection: Clotted sample, specimen collected in gel tube, gross hemolysis, plasma left on cells greater than 4 hours
Days Performed: Monday - Friday
Times Performed: 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
TAT: Expected routine TAT is 24-72 hours and expected STAT TAT is 24 hours. STAT testing must be called to lab in advance and approved by the medical director.
Special Instructions: Deliver to lab on ice - plasma is the specimen of choice for most amino acid disorders excepting transport defects.
