Significance: The circumstance that warrants the use of this rapid assay is testing the source of an exposure to human body fluids.
Special Instructions: A recommendation to order HIV-1 nucleic-acid testing on a separate specimen will be made for certain results. Antibody-reactive specimens are confirmed by HIV-1/HIV-2 differentiation assay. A negative result does not rule out infection with HIV.
