Reasons for Rejection: Same assay within 4 days, obvious microbial contamination
Days Performed: Daily
Times Performed: Morning and afternoon
TAT: 2 hours - 2.5 days
Significance: The presence of anti-HCV indicates that an individual may have been infected with HCV, may harbor infectious HCV, and/or may be capable of transmitting HCV infection. HCV infection may develop into chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and/or increased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma. For specimens with detected HCV antibodies, an HCV viral load is reflexively performed to evaluate for active infection.
Special Instructions: If Hep C Ab is positive, reflex to PCR will be added along with charges for CPT 87522; Hep C PCR is performed Wed & Friday
