Tube Type: Thin-Prep Pap collection vial, call lab for supplies.
Specimen: Spatula/Brush collection: Rinse spatula into the PreservCyt® Solution vial by swirling vigorously in the vial 10 times. Discard the device. Rinse brush in the PreservCyt® Solution vial by rotating the device in the solution 10 times while pushing against the PreservCyt vial wall. Swirl the device vigorously to further release material. Discard the device. Broom collection: Rinse the broom in the PreservCyt® Solution vial by pushing the broom into the bottom of the vial 10 times, forcing the bristles apart. As a final step, swirl the broom vigorously to further release material. Discard the device. Alternate Specimen: Conventional pap smear on glass slide, Must be fixed immediately with spray fixative or slide dropped in 95% Ethanol. Call lab for assistance at 615-322-2721.
Temperature: Room temperature. Call lab for assistance at 615-322-2721.
Reasons for Rejection: Cannot process specimen with missing specimen source, missing ICD-10 codes, mislabeled specimen and/or requisition, received with fluid leaked out of vial in transit, broken glass slides, and unlabeled glass slides.
Days Performed: Monday - Friday; closed major holidays.
Times Performed: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
TAT: 5 business days
Significance: Lab must have presenting ICD-10 code and specimen source to be able to process specimen. For optimal patient care we must have patient's age, first date of LMP, and any significant clinical history. Call lab for assistance at 615-322-2721.
Special Instructions: 1. Place Epic order for Cytology GYN Pap. 2. Indicate specimen source when completing the collection task in Epic. 3. Specimen vial is to be labeled with generic ADT label. 4.
