Methodology: Histological preparation and microscopy. Special stains or procedures may be required at request of Pathologist
Specimen: Prepared slides and block or unstained slides for additional stains
Temperature: Room temperature
Stability: Slides are stable indefinitely. Protect against breakage Paraffin Block is temperature sensitive and may need to be submitted on ice in hot weather
Reasons for Rejection: 1) Incorrect or incomplete patient identification. Label both the Test Requisition and container with 2 patient identifiers. 2) Slide broken beyond repair.
Days Performed: Monday - Friday
Times Performed: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
TAT: 2 working days if no additional slide preparation needed. May be longer if complex requiring additional stains/ancillary testing.
Significance: Significant or unusual findings are communicated
Special Instructions: Complete VPLS Test Requisition.Package slides in durable slide holder and place with any blocks in padded envelope to protect from breaking. Include requisition and copy of report, as well as pertinent clinical data and billing information
