Stability: Send to lab immediately.
Reasons for Rejection: Excessive delay in transport.
Days Performed: Daily
TAT: 6 days for negative cultures. Time varies for positive cultures.
Significance: Positive cultures are notified through Lab Alerts or called/epaged. Molecular testing for identification and resistance markers is automatically performed directly from the positive bottle on the first positive culture for each patient. The culture will also be performed as usual. Isolates are saved for 6 months in case further workup is needed.
Special Instructions: Collect per MD orders. There will be separate charges for organism identification and susceptibility testing when appropriate. If anaerobic cultures are required, draw a Bactec Lytic/10 Anaerobic bottle along with Pediatric bottle.
