Specimen: Paraffin embedded tissue block or Cytology specimen (preferred). Required tumor burden 15%, please include surgical pathology report
Alternate Specimen: 5 unstained 10 micron slides or 10 unstained 5 micron slides (2 sections per slides)
Temperature: Room temperature
Stability: Indfinitely
Reasons for Rejection: Insufficient tumor in tissue; Decalcified tissue - (May or may not yield interpretable results and is dependent on the degree of fixation during processing. An alternate tissue specimen is suggested if available.)
Days Performed: 1 time per week, variable days
Times Performed: Batched
TAT: 12 days
Significance: Analysis of 19 common mutations in 3 genes (IDH1/IDH2/BRAF) to assist in diagnosis and determine treatment
Special Instructions: Call or email the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at 615-343-8121 or moleculardiagnosticlab@vumc.org if assistance is needed for specimen submission or if the patient has received a transfusion in the prior 2 weeks or has a history of a stem cell transplant.
